High Ropes Course activity at aerial adventure park in Colorado.

Aerial Adventure parks

Commercial Operations

Aerial Adventure Parks are designed for commercial operations that seek high adventure combined with high client throughput.

Height and Difficulty

Multiple heights and difficulty levels are incorporated to make sure that every visitor from ages 5 and older has an exciting and fun filled adventure.

Adventure Park Design

Aerial Adventure Parks are usually designed in a linear pattern with a single entrance and a single exit.  This allows for a constant flow of course users moving in one direction.  Aerial adventure Parks can process large numbers of participants creating more of a theme-park type experience.

Staffing

Aerial Adventure Parks are generally more staff intensive than a standard ropes courses, however the ability to service larger numbers of visitors per day usually offsets the staffing cost significantly.

Air adventure parks are becoming more and more popular for companies looking to add on to their theme parks, hotels, cruise ships, adventure parks, and more.  Air adventure parks are used to challenge and allow participants to have a fun time while conquering an obstacle course in the air.  They are designed to be more user friendly than ropes courses allowing participants to go from element to element safety but quicker than on a normal ropes course.  We can create a course with your clients’ needs in mind.  Whether you need a course built for young children, adults, or even a widely diverse population we will work with you to develop the perfect course for your organization.

Belay Systems

Two common belay system options for aerial adventure parks are Smart Belay Systems and Continuous Belay Systems.  Click on either for more information.

Our construction crew is based in Chicago but we build in all 50 states.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@experientialsystems.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We maximize your Return on Investment (ROI) by designing specifically for high participant throughput. We analyze your target demographic and layout, selecting the exact mix of automated safety technologies, element difficulties, and belay systems that allow you to safely move the highest volume of paying customers through the course per hour with minimal staffing requirements

Throughput is the lifeblood of commercial operations. We calculate realistic hourly participant volume based on the proposed structural layout, the physical difficulty of the elements, bottleneck points, and the type of belay and braking systems used. This accurate forecasting allows your investors to build realistic revenue models before construction begins.

To protect your capital investment, best practice is to have ESI fully engineer the course first, then put the completed blueprints out to bid via a Request for Proposal (RFP). This ensures you receive true "apples-to-apples" quotes from builders, eliminating hidden fees. However, ESI is also fully equipped to execute streamlined Design-Build contracts if preferred.

For commercial high ropes and canopy tours, ESI strongly prefers smart belays (like Edelrid Smart Belay X and Clic-iT) over continuous belays. Smart belays electronically or mechanically prevent both lanyards from being unclipped simultaneously. They are vastly superior for handling complex structural angles, significantly reduce participant error, and keep your course moving efficiently without constant guide intervention.

Yes. To capture the widest possible market share, we design multi-tiered aerial adventure parks. We can incorporate "bypass routes" for less confident guests, alongside highly physical elements like ninja warrior obstacles, warped walls, or advanced climbing routes for athletes. We use materials ranging from steel to highly colored plastic lumber to create visually striking, durable attractions.

Absolutely. We custom-engineer indoor climbing walls and bouldering gyms for Family Entertainment Centers (FECs). We utilize advanced auto-belays (like the TRUBLUE) to maximize daily throughput with minimal staffing. All indoor installations are strictly designed to Climbing Wall Association (CWA) standards and local municipal building codes.

ESI designs, engineers, and inspects commercial courses to meet or exceed the rigorous standards set by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and the Professional Ropes Course Association (PRCA). Furthermore, we ensure strict compliance with ASTM F2959 (Standard Practice for Aerial Adventure Courses), which is the benchmark for commercial operations.

In many jurisdictions, the state Department of Labor or specific amusement boards classify commercial zip lines and aerial parks as "amusement devices." When regulated under these state amusement codes, authorities typically enforce the ASTM F2959 standard. ESI meticulously verifies your exact state requirements to ensure your park is engineered and permitted under the correct regulatory framework.

To satisfy state amusement codes, ASTM standards, and commercial insurance policies, your adventure park must undergo a documented structural inspection by a qualified third party at least once a year. Your operational staff must also conduct and strictly document regular in-house visual and tactile inspections prior to opening the course each day.

Yes. Commercial guides must be highly competent to manage risk and maintain throughput. Our AEE-accredited training department provides comprehensive, site-specific instruction. Your staff will learn crowd flow management, automated braking operations, mid-line high-angle rescues, and how to execute your specific Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

While your customers wear recreational gear, your commercial guides are employees, meaning their workplace safety is governed by OSHA. They must wear specialized occupational work-at-height gear, including OSHA-compliant full-body harnesses, certified helmets, and ANSI Z359-compliant shock-absorbing lanyards to limit fall forces while performing rescues or maintenance.

Yes. ESI conducts comprehensive operational reviews (gap assessments) to audit your commercial park's safety culture. We observe your staff during active operations and review your Local Operating Procedures (LOPs), EAPs, and equipment logs to ensure your business remains in strict compliance with ACCT, PRCA, and state amusement standards, actively shielding you from negligence claims.
