ESI can build military confidence courses for ROTC, Basic Combat Training or NAVY SEAL BUDS training programs. We have many activities to choose from such as Belly Crawl, Inclined Wall, Island Hopper, Belly Buster, the Tough One and much more. Call our office to discuss options. We custom build to suit your needs. It can also be created in conjunction with a high ropes course, zip line course or climbing tower to provide an expanded offering of training elements.
If you have a recreational facility and want to add a land-based obstacle course, we can help you design something that appeals to your audience. They can be created as semi permanent structures that can be removed after the busy season ends, or they can be permanent installs. No harnesses are required for the land based courses. They can be run as a timed race, or they can be created to be a self-facilitating activity that is run with minimal staffing.
ESI also designs and builds adaptive learning obstacle courses. If you are looking for something to serve participants that have different physical abilities, we can work with you to create an obstacle course that will be engaging to your audience. We also offer a Universal Program Design Training that can provide guidance in developing inclusive programming for participants with physical, sensory, cognitive and emotional differences. Contact us to learn more.
We also design and build land-based obstacle courses for a variety of uses. They can be created as permanent structures, or if you need something more temporary, we have many portable options.
Whether you are planning a course for a mud race, ninja competition, parkour or any other obstacle course race, we have activities that can be geared towards your course user.
Our construction team is based in Chicago, but we work in all 50 states.

A traditional ropes course focuses on height, balance, and belayed traversal. A ninja warrior or fitness-style obstacle course focuses on dynamic functional fitness, agility, speed, and upper-body strength. Ninja elements—like warped walls, salmon ladders, and quintuple steps—are designed for high-energy, unharnessed challenges.
We custom-build courses to test strength, endurance, and agility. Popular elements include warped walls, salmon ladders, quintuple steps, lache bars, monkey bars, unstable bridges, peg receivers, and cliff hangers. We can customize the difficulty of these elements for all ages, from beginners to seasoned athletes.
Both. ESI custom-designs every course to fit your specific footprint. We can engineer sprawling, heavy-duty outdoor installations using treated wood and galvanized steel, or design compact, highly efficient indoor setups for gymnasiums and family entertainment centers (FECs) using specialized framing.
Generally, no. Because ninja warrior courses are focused on speed and fluid movement, participants typically do not wear harnesses. Instead of active belays, these courses rely on highly engineered fall protection underneath the elements, such as thick crash mats, foam pits, air bags, or specialized loose-fill surfacing.
Yes. Experiential Systems designs, engineers, and installs confidence courses and tactical training setups specifically tailored for military personnel, law enforcement, and first responders. These courses are built to withstand rigorous, repetitive use by adults carrying heavy field equipment.
Because tactical courses are specialized training tools rather than recreational structures, they must meet strict military guidelines. ESI designs and inspects our military obstacle courses to meet applicable TRADOC (Training and Doctrine Command) standards, alongside overarching ACCT safety guidelines.
Military confidence and tactical courses feature rigorous challenges designed to cultivate physical courage and stamina. Typical elements we install include "The Weaver," the "Slide for Life," the "Tarzan," the "Belly Robber," high and low crawls, hand-over-pipes, and vaulted log structures.
We start with a thorough onboarding assessment and site visit (or Google Earth evaluation) to understand your demographic and space constraints. We then provide a customized 3D model of your course. We collaborate with you to swap or adjust specific obstacles until the design perfectly aligns with your vision.
All ESI construction crews are elite, multi-jurisdictional professionals. At a minimum, every installer on your site holds an OSHA 10 certification, professional rigging certification, and a machine operator certification. The entire build process is governed by our ISO 9001 certified quality management system.
Yes. Even without belay systems, obstacle courses require active staff management. Our AEE-accredited training department will conduct on-site training for your staff, focusing on crowd flow, spotting techniques, daily element inspections, risk management, and executing your Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
