In 1997 Experiential System was asked by the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) in Wheaton, Illinois to inspect all of the figure skating jump training systems in the metro Chicago area that are represented by the PDRMA. What we found is that without written standards for the installation of jump training systems, those we inspected were inconsistent and inadequate with regards to safety. Experiential Systems began applying the standards of the...

Absolutely. Selecting the correct equipment is critical for safety and operational efficiency. Our team of certified professionals will consult with you to build a customized equipment package perfectly tailored to your course’s specific structural design, participant demographics, throughput goals, and ACCT or PRCA compliance requirements.
Yes. Whether you need a single carabiner or harness, a complete, turnkey equipment package for a brand-new course , or you need to place a bulk order to replace your facility's entire fleet of aging harnesses and helmets for the upcoming season, ESI can fulfill orders of any size.
Traditional static belays use two standard lanyard legs requiring participants to manually transfer clips, while dynamic top rope belays use a climbing rope managed by a staff member on the ground. Smart belays (like Clic-iT) use interactive auto-locking technology that prevents both lanyard legs from being unclipped simultaneously. Continuous belay systems utilize a specialized trolley that glides over connection brackets along the entire course, making it physically impossible for the participant to detach from the safety line.
Equipment retirement is strictly dictated by the manufacturer's specific instructions, chronological age, and physical condition. Typically, synthetic ropes last 2 to 4 years, harnesses last 5 to 10 years, and steel hardware can last 5 years or much longer depending on wear. Both ACCT and PRCA standards require that all life-safety equipment be retired immediately if it fails a physical inspection or reaches its manufacturer-mandated lifespan.
To maximize lifespan, all gear must be maintained according to the manufacturer's specific guidelines. Generally, synthetic ropes and harnesses should be washed with mild soap and water, then air-dried away from direct sunlight. Store all life-safety equipment in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated area to prevent mildew, UV degradation, and chemical contamination, which can severely compromise synthetic fibers.
Proper documentation is essential for ACCT and PRCA compliance and liability protection. Facilities must maintain comprehensive equipment logs, including daily pre-use checklists, periodic inspection records, and maintenance/retirement logs. Each piece of life-safety equipment should have a documented history tracking its date of purchase, in-service date, usage levels, and any maintenance performed to accurately gauge when it must be retired.
Participant gear is designed for guided recreational activities, while staff members operating the course or performing rescues require specialized occupational work-at-height gear. For example, instructors working at height typically need lanyards equipped with shock packs (energy absorbers) to limit fall forces, whereas participant lanyards do not. Additionally, staff helmets must be manufactured and tested to different occupational safety standards than standard recreational helmets
