Most ropes courses are built in the outdoors exposed to the elements. Storms, UV exposure, and vandalism can all lead to the need for repairs. Experiential Systems can do minor repairs such as hardware and equipment replacement, cable tightening, or element modifications ESI can also do major repairs such as replacing belay cables, poles, or repairing climbing wall faces.
Did you know most repairs on a ropes course can be prevented? We can also work with your staff to develop a quarterly or monthly maintenance plan to prevent future major repairs.
Many times repairs become evident during your annual inspection. If this is the case speak with your inspector as to the extent of the work needed and potential scheduling options for the repairs. If the damage happens outside of your inspection time contact our office set up a repair date. Make sure to take pictures of the elements that need to be repaired. This can help us to be better prepared with a quote and estimate of time needed for the repair.
Our construction crews are based in Chicago but we work in all 50 states.

No. ESI provides comprehensive maintenance, repairs, and modifications for challenge courses and zip lines regardless of who the original builder was. Our engineers and installers are experts in repairing structures built by other manufacturers, bringing them up to current ACCT, PRCA, ASTM, and CWA (Climbing Wall Association) standards.Experiential Systems, Inc. has been in business for over 25 years, providing top-quality construction services to clients in the local area.
Yes. In addition to structural repairs, ESI can evaluate, supply, and replace your facility’s aging or worn life-safety components. We provide high-quality harnesses, helmets, lanyards, carabiners, and specialized devices, ensuring your gear perfectly matches your operational requirements and complies with all safety regulations.
Yes, major modifications and technology upgrades are a core ESI service. We can retrofit your existing challenge course or zip line with modern safety innovations. This includes installing continuous belay systems, upgrading to smart/auto-locking belay lanyards, or adding advanced magnetic braking systems like zipSTOPs.
Yes. Any major additions, structural renovations, or significant technological upgrades to a challenge course, zip line, or climbing wall require a formal "commissioning inspection" prior to participant use. ESI will ensure your upgraded elements meet all current ACCT, PRCA, ASTM, and CWA standards before you reopen.
If an element outright fails a professional structural inspection, it must be closed immediately and cannot be used until proper repairs are made. For minor maintenance deficiencies, programs are typically given 30 to 90 days to complete the necessary upkeep to remain compliant with industry safety standards.
While competent in-house staff can and should handle simple, routine upkeep (like tightening loose bolts or cleaning equipment), improvements, modifications to critical life-safety components, and substantial structural changes must always be completed by a qualified, professional vendor like ESI to ensure strict compliance with safety standards.
Tree-based courses require highly specialized, ongoing maintenance. Because trees are living, growing structures, the hardware attached to them must be regularly adjusted. ESI technicians are experts at managing "bolt overgrowth," safely backing off hardware and adjusting cables to protect the tree's health and maintain structural integrity.
Experiential Systems is a multi-jurisdictional licensed contractor fully qualified to provide maintenance, repairs, and major modifications in all 50 U.S. states, as well as internationally. Whether your facility is in a remote forested environment or an urban center, our crews are equipped to mobilize to your location.
We highly recommend scheduling major repairs and planned maintenance projects during your post-season or off-season (typically late fall or winter). Planning ahead prevents unexpected equipment failures from interrupting your peak operations and ensures your facility is fully compliant and ready to go before the busy spring season begins.
