Builders working at a ropes course construction site in Michigan.

Design and Construction Services

The Experiential Systems design and construction team has over 300 combined years of experience creating adventure courses.  From concept to installation, our team considers risk management, environmental factors, and program flow with each course element or structure we install.  ESI offers turn-key design, engineering and installation services including civil and structural engineering.  We also offer site surveying,  arboricultural evaluation and tree trimming and removing services.

A project manager will sit down with you and discuss everything needed to design or customize a ropes course or climbing tower for your organization’s needs.  We start with determining the type of service you will be offering: recreational opportunities, amusement-based experiences, educational programming, or therapeutic services.  These questions then can lead to a better idea of the type of course or structure and belay system best suited for your operational goals.  From there we look at the physical site and the space available for installation and operation.  Finally, your budget and staff capacity to operate is considered. Once all these details are determined, we then submit a proposal for your review.

Once your design has been approved we move to the build stage of the project.  You will be assigned a foreman who will be your main contact during the construction process.  ESI’s builders are professionals who focus on creating the course and structures you designed.

Make sure to take a look at our gallery for inspiration and ideas for what you would like to have installed.

ESI is based in the Chicago area but we do work in all 50 states.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@experientialsystems.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Experiential Systems, Inc. (ESI) provides a comprehensive, end-to-end construction solution. We don't just bolt wood and cable together. Our turn-key services include conceptual site design, civil and structural engineering, site surveying, arboricultural evaluations, and complete professional installation where required. We manage every single phase of the build so your organization can focus on preparing your operations and marketing.

Every facility has different operational goals. Our project managers start by identifying your core programming: are you offering recreational amusement, educational team-building, or therapeutic services? From there, we evaluate your site’s physical footprint, your target participant throughput, and your staffing capacity. A high-throughput commercial zip line requires a drastically different layout and belay system than a therapeutic dynamic ropes course. We custom-engineer the design to maximize your specific Return on Investment (ROI). Yes, Experiential Systems, Inc. provides comprehensive design services to clients. Our team of experienced architects and designers works closely with clients to create custom designs that meet their unique needs and specifications.

We build in both environments. If you want a natural canopy experience, ESI provides professional arboricultural evaluations to ensure your trees are healthy and structurally sound enough to support dynamic loads. We even offer in-house tree trimming and removal services for site preparation. If your site lacks mature timber, we seamlessly engineer and install robust utility pole or freestanding steel structures to create a towering adventure park anywhere on your property.

Yes. Securing building permits and passing state amusement ride inspections when required takes rigorous documentation. ESI provides the certified civil and structural engineering documents required by your local Jurisdiction Having Authority (JHA). Because our operations are ISO 9001:2015 Certified, our blueprints, load calculations, and site plans meet the highest global standards for quality management.

Our builds strictly comply with the most current life-safety codes governing the aerial adventure industry. We engineer and construct in accordance with ANSI/ACCT 03-2019 and ANSI/PRCA 03-2014 design and performance standards. Furthermore, for commercial operations regulated by state amusement laws, we design and build in strict compliance with ASTM International amusement ride codes, and our installation team follows OSHA codes for worker safety.

Once your design and engineering plans are approved, the project moves to the build phase and you are assigned a dedicated ESI Construction Foreman. This foreman serves as your primary, on-site point of contact. Our professional builders execute the installation with meticulous attention to detail—from strictly logging the torque specifications for wire rope clips to ensuring the environmental footprint of the build site is actively minimized.

Most ropes course vendors rely on loose industry guidelines during a build. As an ISO 9001:2015 Certified firm, ESI executes construction under a heavily audited Quality Management System (QMS). This guarantees absolute consistency across our builds. It means our materials are tracked, our installation techniques are standardized, and our quality control processes are documented, providing you with a finished structure that is objectively verified for safety.

When you hire ESI, you are hiring decades of specialized expertise. Our design and construction team boasts over 300 combined years of experience creating aerial adventure courses. Our master builders and engineers have been central to the development of national safety standards and have encountered (and solved) virtually every geological, structural, and operational challenge in the industry.

Yes. If your operational goal is to process a high volume of participants with minimal staffing (such as a commercial aerial adventure park), ESI specializes in the installation of Continuous Belay Systems (CBS) and Smart Belay technology. We engineer the structural routing of the track and brackets so that once a guest is clipped in on the ground, they can safely navigate the entire aerial course without ever disconnecting from the life-safety system.
